It’s easy to sit back at home watching TV or playing a game on your phone and let life pass you by. In this day and age, there is always something going on somewhere. But will the trip be worth your time? Your money? Will you regret going out? What if something happens you weren’t expecting? Would you be ok missing it? Whether you go out and decide to explore life, the one thing you have to remember is that you never know what can happen. Your plans might be pretty straight forward and planned out, but life can throw in a curve ball and change everything.
Attending last week’s Sonoma Drift event was an exploring mission of my own. And I couldn’t be happier for taking it on. Not only did I get a chance to photograph some local amateur drifters, but I also got to photograph and watch a Formula Drift Pro do his thing. Funny thing is that I didn’t even know it was him till a day or two later, and although the FD3S looked strikingly similar to the Falken Tire FD, I chalked it up that it belonged to a local amateur.
Turns out I was half right. Car belonged to a local, but it wasn’t an amateur driver. The man behind the wheel was FD Pro Driver Calvin Wan. Could this be Calvin preparing for a FD comeback? Or just out having some Wednesday night fun? Either way it was great to see him out there and hope its not the last time.
A classic car drifting? That’s something you don’t see everyday. Hell, you barely even see a classic on a race track these days. While I’m sure owners have their reasons for keeping their classics babied, its definitely a treat when someone breaks the formality and brings one out to play…
Its been quite some time that I have been wanting to check out this weekly event my local track holds. Every week however, something got in the way or came up that kept me from making it out to Wednesday’s Sonoma Drift. Finally, I had a day off and was not going to let anything get in the way of me making it out. It was definitely worth the trip out. Felt great to finally shoot motorsports again and see how the local talent was. Even got a chance to capture an FD pro which will come in a future post. With another week until the next event, here’s a few photos from last week’s outing.
Some may already know, but GST Motorsports and N1 Concepts are working together to build a BRZ that is going to be nothing short of frighteningly insane. Dubbed the name “Phoenix 86” from its past life as a “burn-victim” insurance claim, the plans of both shops are to bring her from the ashes to become one of the fastest, if not fastest BRZ/FRS/GT86 in the world. It’s said that a newborn babies eye sight is initially just black and white. So with Phoenix receiving her own “rebirth”, I processed these first images in black and white to mirror that newborn baby effect.
